While machine learning is one of the most popular research areas in Computer Science right now, there are still only a few applications meant to be used by general public. This paper presents an exemplary application that may be directly applied to eBay trading. This paper starts with a short survey of machine learning in general and techniques that may be used to benefit the development of said application, specifically K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm, genetic algorithms, and prior work on parallelization of machine learning algorithms. In the second part of the paper, the learning system is discussed. Using laptop item category on eBay a training apparatus is constructed that predicts how much a laptop would sell on auction based on its parameters. Prior eBay laptop trades are used as training data. We achieve an overall average error of around $58, which is comparable to what an experienced eBay trader can predict.
